What is the Positive Health Program?

From the first reports of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the UCSF Positive Health Program (PHP) at San Francisco General Hospital has led the world in defining best practices of clinical care in HIV/AIDS medicine. The staff’s motto is to always focus first on patient wellbeing and to work towards a collective mission – “to explore, learn, teach, heal and comfort.” The PHP treatment model includes an emphasis on outpatient primary and specialty HIV care, rapid availability of routine and urgent care to the patient, psychosocial support through a spectrum of services, integration of patient care with clinical research, and ongoing education for patients, providers and the local community.

af_protestJoin us and event sponsors the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for a special Kickstarter Kickoff party for ALFREDO’S FIRE. This powerful and timely film chronicles the forgotten story of Alfredo Ormando, a gay Italian writer who set himself on fire at the Vatican to protest the Church’s condemnation of homosexuality. As Pope Benedict XVI abdicates his papacy, the time is ripe for dialogue aimed at building a more open and inclusive Church, so that no more lives are extinguished by religious intolerance.

Help Open Eye Pictures launch its Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to finish the film in the next few months. Enjoy drinks & noshes and support our local independent arts community.

salvage_logoDesign Plus Gallery is proud to be chosen as the exclusive Northern California retail partner for Portland-based Tropical Salvage. This unique, up and coming furniture manufacturing company uses sustainable, renewable means to create beautiful and functional works of art for your home. Our mutual values and emphasis on eco-friendly furniture and green business make us natural partners. Here’s a little more about Tropical Salvage:

salvage_riverlogsThe Tropical Salvage collection has evolved collaboratively over nearly fifteen years. It integrates design vision of the company’s founders, Tim O’Brien and Agus Rofiqkoh, with customer requests, historically well-known design styles such as “Mission” and “Mid-Century Modern”, and contracted work of trained designers. Our Collection is a companionable eclecticism that combines a new globally-interconnected vantage with old-world artisan skills. It is uniquely strengthened by the inimitable art of old woods seasoned by time and the elements.

salvage-showroomTropical Salvage applies skillful construction techniques to build sturdy, functional designs. Every piece is handmade and expresses the company’s ethos. We practice thorough use of the resource, repurposing any serviceable wood we can cost-effectively salvage, regardless of the species. We embrace idiosyncrasies that history has fixed into our salvaged woods: marks from nails, old bore holes from insects, spalting from mold, intense grain colors caused by long immersion in mineral-murky rivers, and beautifully variant grain figure caused by the competition among trees in wild forests to reach sunlight. These characteristics are all part of the wood’s rich history and provoke our wonder and respect. Sales of Tropical Salvage furniture fuel our company’s guiding mission – market-oriented conservation, tropical forest restoration, and community empowerment.

We’re thrilled to share Tropical Salvage’s mission and offer their one-of-a-kind furniture. We know you’ll be thrilled too. Come on down and take a look. We have a feeling these pieces will go quick!
